GREEK ISLANDS

The best known islands in the Argosaronic Gulf are Agkistri, Aegina, Spetses, Hydra, Poros, Salamina and the peninsula of Methana. One reason these islands are popular is their close proximity to Athens, with daily ferry connection from the port of Piraeus, but ultimately it’s the ancient mythology, historical treasures and romantic atmosphere that has tourists heading to the region in droves.

SARONIC ISLANDS

The Sporades is a group of Greek islands in the northwest Aegean Sea. Four of them - Alonnisos, Skiathos, Skopelos and Skyros - are inhabited. The islands are known for their beaches, wooded terrain, and coastal diving and snorkeling. Surrounded by uninhabited isles, Alonnisos is at the center of a marine park that’s home to dolphins and Mediterranean monk seals.

The North Aegean islands are not as easy to get to as some of the others, but with destinations such as Agios Efstratios, Thasos, Ikaria, Lesvos, Limnos, Inouses, Samos, Samothrace, Chios and Psara, it is well worth the time and effort. While they may be less popular than others, their beauty is on par and you’re bound to truly experience not only a relaxing vacation and plenty of fantastic beaches, hotels and restaurants, but also Greek culture at its finest.
